Thor:Ragnarok Movie Review

Director – Taika Waititi

Players -Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Mark Ruffalo

The Comic Feel

Do you know the meaning of sheer delight? Have you ever experienced a cinematic deja-vu in a while, well the third instalment of Thor is that crazy ride of comic book characters. Let me tell you something, Marvel Cinematic Universe is based upon its legendary comic books and one of the most important ingredients of comics is humour (read comic – fun). So yes …

I was jumping with joy when I watched the first part of Avengers in Calcutta and few years down the lane I felt the same dose of excitement. Yes , yes I am not trying to glorify the movie, this is indeed the best Marvel Superhero movie ever. It has got the scale of Avengers , it has got the ego of Civil War and cockiness of DeadPool … dam it..this is the bloody best of all time. Lastly it never gets hung up….

Oh yeah this is not Nolan’s The Dark Knight- it is a grim and gritty genre, altogether a different league.

The Plot

Fans of Vikings and Norse Mythology are well equipped with the notion of Ragnarok which means catastrophic destruction of Odin’s Asgard. There is a common theme in the super-hero movies i.e. the end of the world and believe me Ragnarok is not an exception but the movie explains that the world is not a place but the people which makes it beautiful and that’s where the movie wins.

Taika Watiti , you are a master director who handles the myriad of characters and fixes them upon the plot line and it never becomes too heavy to handle.

Acting and the Craft of Thor Ragnarok

Chris Hemsworth’s physique and comic timings are endearing and this movie shows that Thor is actually the God of Thunder, not hammer you hoomans. Check out the conversation between Thor and Odin (Mother of sarcasm).

Thor: She’s too powerful, I have no hammer.

Odin: What are you, Thor, god of hammers?

Hiddleston’s Loki is delightful and cunning at the same time, no doubt one of the most well sketched character of the Marvel Universe. You will be satisfied with him as usual.

Mark Ruffalo as the endearing Dr. Bruce Banner (with 7 Phds) gets side-lined this time by his own alter ego; the ever smashing HULK. If you have noticed carefully, Hulk only emotes and destructs in the previous movies, here he talks, he emotes, he smashes and does lovely Bhai Chara( read Bromance) with Thor. I felt like Yaba Yaba do when Hulk and Thor enjoyed their “YO-BRO” moment in the film. Thor wants Hulk to help him in his mission of saving Asgard and check out the cocky exchange of words.

Thor: Hela, the goddess of death, has invaded Asgard! And you and I had a fight.

Bruce Banner: Did I win?

Thor: No, I won! Easily!

Bruce Banner: That doesn’t sound right…

Thor: Well, it’s true!

Goldblum from Jurassic Park is flamboyant and greedy Grandmaster in the film, loved him. Cumberbatch’s  cameo as Dr.  Strange was again eccentric and funny. Anthony Hopkins as the decayed Odin tried to bring his sons together and whether he was successful or not….well wait and watch. How can I forget the Stoneman “Korg” ? Who wants to bring a revolution but invokes laughter with his peculiar dialogue delivery and childish actions. Tessa Thompson as the drunken bounty hunter is a stellar and the last catwalk entry during the final fight- WOW.

Cate Blanchett as the main antagonist Hela , the Godess of Death ravaged across the screen like a highly spirited lioness. Her screen presence , arrogance, the curvy body (oh yeah) and the antelope styled head gear proved she is an actress class apart .

Quoting one dialogue for her sake

Hela: [to Thor] I’m not a queen, or a monster… I’m the god of death! What were you the god of, again?

CGI is as usual class apart specially the scene where the army of Hela destroys the group of Valkyries….you will wonder with terror and beauty of the scene.

Led Zeppelin’s classic rong song “Immigrant” ( which is about the heroes of Norse Mythology on their way to Valhalla , the hall of Odin) deserves a special mention(one of my favourite) which adds a rocking tone to the magnificently shot epic adventure named Thor Ragnarok. The music director Mark Mothersbaugh deserves my hugs and kissed for composing such electrifying musical pieces for this one. It was a ride back to the disco tunes of 80’s. Maazza aa gaya….

The simple and comical treatment of the film by Taika Watiti

Acting by all the lead cast

Don’t miss the actors in a play within the film ..ah Matt Dammon played Loki

Loki’s mischief and Thor’s comic timing

The bromance between Hulk and Thor ..(oh yeah Tony’s tight pants also)

The background score

Visual delight of CGI

None, according to me.

If you have…please go and die.

Spider-Man: Homecoming , The Movie Review

Direction by Jon Watts

Story by Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley (Based on Stan Lee’s Comics)

Who all are there? Ans :- Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr.

Let me get this straight, I have never read any comics of Marvel, except Spiderman. Well there were few episodes of Captain America in my stash, that’s it. It was DC’s heroes all the way. Spider-Man Homecoming has broken the internet with its funky trailer and the most importantly introducing Iron-Man into the film story line. I was bustling with teen like excitements because I was going to watch one of my favourite super heroes Master Spidey on big screen (didn’t watch the previous Spidey series on big screen). At least there was and there is a super-hero with real life problems.

I was truly afraid that Tony Stark’s towering personality might over shadow the baby boy. Well, Spider-Man is there and the movie belongs to him all the way. Tom Holland is confused , bumbling with high level of testosterone and most importantly he is a hero in his own accord. At last there is a Spider- Man with the closest resemblance to the comic book. Cinema and comics are altogether different medium and cinematic liberty is cool but being faithful to the original comics, actually touches your soul.  Marvel Cinematic Universe – take a bow for providing such a decent script and presenting the Spidey of the decade. One of the best features of MCU , is the existence of different comic book characters and linking the story-line to something very big, oh yes I am talking about Avenger’s Infinity War.

Tom Holland is perfect.  Spidey’s tech support, the cutipie Asian Guy (Americans have this issue of calling Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indians as Asians) provides some comic relief as usual (that is the job of Tech Support , apart from tech support). Robert Downey Jr is a God(Not a typo. It is God) as usual . Spidey’s aunt …mmmm is HOT. The former Batman and Birdman, Michael Keaton is menacing on screen . Keaton looked more convincing as a baddie without the entire freakish Vulture suit.

Cinematography could have been much better. Spidey’s original theme song was refreshing and nostalgic to the core. Action sequences were good but could have been more stylish. But the technical brilliance showcased is really cool. Iron-Man has done some terrific up gradation with the Spidey suit. This movie scores full marks on the acting department and the engaging screenplay across the run time. Some scenes were brilliant, some were let down. Tom Holland is a future superstar. He is so real with his problems and torment. He does not want to be low key local hero but want to make it big among the Avengers. This Spider-Man never cries or breaks down. He is a teen who can control his emotions and hold his tears. He knows what he is doing. He can take his own decisions and at the same time he is a jackass.

If you think it is Iron-Man who can show off his attitude in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ,well here is teen hero who can match him. He carries his pride and he knows his place. He proves it that it is the valour which makes a hero , not the suit.

Tom Holland’s performance…

Acting is really cool…

Screenplay is also very cool

Technical Brilliance regarding Spidey’s suit is mesmerizing

Background Score…..

One liners by Iron-Man like

“Can’t you just be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?”

That’s not a hug. I’m just grabbing the door for you.

No origin story (though it was  shown in other films but still…………)

Cinematography was low key.

Dragged a lot…

Post-credit scene was a big let-down.

Ratings- 7/10

Verdict- Watch it…

Captain America: Civil War : A Movie Review

Director Duo-Anthony Russo,Joe Russo

Screenplay-Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely

Cast– Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr,Chris Evans

Civil War is definitely one of the best multistarrer superhero movie .While the first installement of Avenger was a great one ,the second one i.e Age of Ultron…was a dud.I was really afraid to watch Civil War after the Dawn of Justice show.

First of all the Casting

No one can beat the casting director of the Marvel Movie Universe, while characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow have been accepted long back. Vision has been perfect, but I preferred more intellectual stuff from him.

The surprise element of the movie is Spiderman,if you follow the comics then Spidey is exactly the confused teenager portrayed over here.Ant man as usual surprised the audience, people were cheering with his action antics. Black Panther aggressive attitude in black suit and calm and composite nature as the Prince is so endearing.

I think the Hollywood scripting world is running out of ideas, every  goddamm superhero movies and T.V shows are coming up with singular agenda-The world is going to end,and these superheroes are going to save the world.I know, that is the politics of  States, concerned with th welfare of the globe. Please come out of the zone, please come up with something new.The hamartia is nothing new over here.

The dialogue by Zemo sums up all the movie and the vanity of Civil War.

Zemo: An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again, but one which crumbles from within? That’s dead… forever.

The execution has been very smooth, the editing and CGI does not leave any room for  improvement.I was wondering whether this was a Captain America sequel or an Avenger prequel. The best thing about the  movie is that, most of the characters received considerable amount of screen pace.

The Spiderman, the Black Panther and Zemo(he was there in first part of Captain America)are relatively new kids on the block. Their work deserves an applause. But it is the highly puzzled antics of Spidey which steal the show. Don’t deny the chopy one liner by Iron Man and Captain America.Check out the comic timing between Iron Man, War Machine and dear Spidey.

Spider-Man: Hey guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?

War Machine: Jesus Tony, how old is this guy?

Iron Man: I don’t know, I didn’t carbon date him. He’s on the young side.

Action Sequence

Well…the action sequence was pure evil.I have got one word for it,kickass. All the mightiest superheroes kicking each other’s butt. The wise moves of Cap,the smoky blow of Ironman and the ever perplexed web of the Spidey were pure joy.The little comic book guy inside me was bumbling with Flinstone like expression : “Yaba Yaba Do”.

Don’t miss out the BIG DIVERSION created by Ant Man.

The duel between Rogers and Stark was heartwrenching,I mean great moves, punching each other…but it was like they were hitting themselves.

And the red head Black Widow,I think you can give any action hero a run for their money. You are beautiful, you are sultry, you are a mystifying creature. You deserve a solo movie of your own Natasha.

Well, this was was a good movie,go for the 3D one.Deadpool was Legendary,Civil War is great.

Go for it.

P.S : Don’t miss the post credit scene. 😛

Movie Review : DEADPOOL

Directed by Tim Miller
Based on Deadpool by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld
Starring Ryan Reynolds,Morena Baccarin(she is so beautiful),Ed Skrein,T. J. Miller
Weekends are very important in life..but usually we tend to spend them by visiting genteel restaurants and faraway places within the conurbation.I,the laziest among all those bushed and worn out Mumbaikar like to spend my Sunday by lying down on the couch and enjoy fair share of movies and TV series on our laptop. But it was getting somewhat ritualistic and since change is the only constant in our nature, so me and my roomy opted out for BOOKMYSHOW and booked two tickets for one of the most wackiest movie of all time.
Yep I am talking about DeadPool,no not that mouth stitched avatar from one of the Wolverine movie, but a feel fledged Protagonist in this brilliant piece of cinematic piece.Well,Deadpool lacks every character of any of the X-Men or any Avenger Heroes and please forget about the Justice league characters…but wait a second, some traces of his characteristics can be found from the Suicide Squad Members.

So he is not a hero..but not even a villain. He is a wild mercenary ,who sudenly falls for a hot chick in a bar and after a brief courting period,he fishes out a proposal ring and duh..he has been diagnosed with not only a cancer but a terminal one.Ah,sounds familiar ? Doesn’t matter, now the hero undergoes a tremendous transformation(due to an experimental surgical procedure),his sexy body transforms into a beast like jackass ewww..I don’t know what to call it ?

He receives power like Hulk, badass style like Wolverine and an attitude like..well like no one else.It is the attitude of this Ryan Reynolds which makes the character so lively, so funky and such a pain in the ass piece of articraft to the superhero movie genre.
For the story and other deep shit about the movie-read Wikipedia.
Now the craft of the story telling is a dear piece of entertainment. You cannot ignore the innovative and wicked opening sequence where you come across phrases like a British Villain..a hot chick..a CGI Character etc. The movie starts with the red masked hero nodding to the tune of our Great Mukesh on a car driven by an Indian(You Americans stop identifying everyone as Asian…or we will start calling all the Canadians and Mexicans as Americans :P).While he befriends the driver named Bandhu(read Friend)and listen to his love story and the next while he bashes the bad guy all the way to hell.It is basically a revenge saga cum love saga and DeadPool doesn’t stand for justice(he is not Bruce Wayne) he enjoyed killing those fanatic people.Yeah we had a sure dose of flashback in this movie, believe me I loathed them.I relieved his present form, I mean an Avacado had an intercourse with another avacado like face of the hero and his out of the way hilarious anecdotes .
Ah acting was all the way Ryan Reynold’s movie,he nailed it with his super funky portrayal of this anti hero.
Thank God Reynold’s Green Lantern flopped. 😛
N.B: Don’t miss
1.Where DeadPool puts a magazine cutting of Hugh Jackman on his face.
2.Deadpool grows back his baby hand.
3.DeadPool’s moments with the blind lady.
4.Deadpool carrying his arms and ammunition in a Hello Kitty bag .
5.The opening sequence fight scenes
6.Ah..his nude body fight with Ajax.
7.The way he teases Angel Dust.
8.The hot scenes with Vanessa

9.That moment when the bullet got strucked in the ASS. 😛

Well in short, go and watch this piece of immensely entertaining movie.

Enjoy the trailer
